The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), representing 1.2 million essential workers in North America, observed Workers Memorial Day. This day is dedicated to honoring workers who have suffered fatalities, injuries, disabilities, or harm in their workplaces.

Marc Perrone, UFCW International President, marked the occasion with a statement, emphasizing workplace safety as a fundamental American value. He stated, “Protecting America’s workers in the workplace should be a core American value. Every worker in the United States should be able to go home at the end of the workday with their health, dignity, and well-being intact.”

He also highlighted the union’s commitment to standing by families who have lost loved ones to workplace accidents and the determination to combat challenges to workplace safety. “This Workers Memorial Day, our union stands with the families, communities, and co-workers who have lost loved ones to workplace tragedies. And we honor their legacy by fighting in the halls of government and on the shop floors against attacks on workplace safety and by continuing to organize more workers, negotiate stronger union contracts, and raise standards for all workers in this country,” Perrone stated.

Workers Memorial Day serves as an opportunity for the UFCW to advocate for improved conditions and safety standards within various industries pivotal to the American economy.
