The United Auto Workers (UAW) is urging the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to investigate Ford and BlueOval SK (BOSK) for alleged violations of federal labor law. The union seeks to ensure a fair election process, free from employer intimidation and coercion.

In January, a supermajority of BOSK workers filed for a union election with the UAW. They demand safer working conditions, affordable health care, and representation in workplace decisions. Since then, BOSK and Ford have reportedly conducted an aggressive anti-union campaign.

According to allegations, BOSK has retaliated against union supporters, forced employees into closed-door meetings, and threatened plant closures. The company is also accused of purchasing anti-union advertisements and hiring consultants to influence workers.

Laura Dickerson, UAW Vice President and Director of the Ford Department, stated: “Ford knows better. For over 80 years, Ford workers have had a union and a voice. But at BOSK, they’re doing everything they can to stop these workers from having the same thing.”

Workers report that the company’s actions have created a hostile environment around the election. Safety concerns are prevalent at the workplace; issues such as toxic chemical exposure and inadequate safety equipment were highlighted in an investigation by the Louisville Courier-Journal.

“BOSK wants to act like there are no safety issues here,” said Rob Collett, a Production Associate. “But the chemicals we work with are dangerous.”

Tim Smith, UAW Region 8 Director commented: “These BOSK workers are brave as hell… Elected leaders can’t look the other way while this industry grows — they need to have workers’ backs.”

The UAW calls on NLRB intervention before proceeding with any elections at BOSK to guarantee fair conditions.

“We are excited to vote yes! We have been waiting for this for a long time,” said Emily Drueke from Quality Department.

This campaign is part of broader worker organizing efforts within the electric vehicle battery industry across states like Ohio and Tennessee.
