The UAW has voiced strong opposition to the recent decision by the Trump administration to terminate nearly 900 workers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). For years, NIOSH has been instrumental in conducting research and providing recommendations aimed at preventing work-related injuries and illnesses. The UAW highlights the critical importance of the agency’s guidance on several issues including chemical hazards, workplace violence, and first responder and firefighter safety protocols.

According to the UAW, “The NIOSH’s work is absolutely critical in advancing rules that protect workers on the job so that they can return home safely every day.” They emphasize the crucial role the workers slated for termination play in ensuring workplace safety.

The union warns of the potential negative implications of these job cuts, stating, “This attack on NIOSH workers will have far-reaching negative consequences for workers in this country and beyond, and we demand they be reinstated.”
