The United Auto Workers (UAW) have officially endorsed Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr. for the position of Mayor of Detroit. Kinloch, known for his advocacy for working-class citizens, has deep connections with the union as a former member of UAW Local 235 and being part of a family with strong UAW ties.

Despite Detroit’s recent resurgence, many working-class families still face challenges. Rev. Kinloch is committed to ensuring that the city’s progress benefits everyone. His support for UAW members is well-documented; he has actively participated in strikes alongside UAW Local 900 members and provided assistance to strikers and their families during difficult times.

UAW President Shawn Fain emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes all residents: “In this election, Detroit needs a champion who will fight for the working class and build a city that works for everyone — not just the few,” Fain stated. He praised Kinloch’s commitment to economic justice and moral leadership.

LaShawn English, Director of UAW Region 1, echoed these sentiments by highlighting Kinloch’s firsthand experience with labor struggles: “He’s one of us,” English said, noting his understanding of the daily realities faced by workers.

Laura Dickerson, Director of UAW Region 1A, also praised Kinloch’s solidarity with union members: “UAW members in Region 1A know that solidarity isn’t just a slogan for Solomon Kinloch — it’s how he lives,” she remarked.

With over 350,000 active and retired members statewide and more than 120,000 in Detroit alone, the UAW is positioned to significantly influence this election. The union plans to actively campaign for Rev. Kinloch through various grassroots efforts such as door-to-door canvassing and phone banking following an upcoming launch event.
