The Teamsters Local 2024 Nurses for Nurses Bargaining Committee has reached an agreement with Corewell Health East, securing economic improvements for union nurses that had previously been withheld. The new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) ensures that nurses represented by the Teamsters will receive the same economic benefits provided to nonunion employees in 2025. It also guarantees that any future economic improvements offered to unorganized workers this year will be extended to Teamsters nurses.
“We told Corewell on Day One that equitable treatment of Teamsters nurses was our top priority,” said Mike Smith, lead negotiator and Trustee of Local 2024. “While we are proud to have reached this agreement and secured nurses what they are rightfully owed, this is just the beginning of a longer fight.”
Under the terms of the MOA, Teamsters nurses will receive several retroactive benefits. These include a general wage increase effective March 2025, adjustments to base pay and tiers for advanced practice providers, a $250 bonus, increases in shift differentials and premiums, as well as matching contributions to the 403(b) retirement plan.
The agreement follows a rally held one month ago where Local 2024 members were joined by Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, state and local officials, and union supporters who called on Corewell Health East to provide equal treatment for unionized staff.
“Corewell should have never denied the Teamsters nurses our fair share just because we formed a union,” said Sarah Johnson, a member of the negotiating committee. “This MOA solidifies that when Teamsters fight, Teamsters win — and that’s the exact mentality we are heading into the rest of negotiations with. We are eager to get back to the bargaining table and solidify the foundation of our first union contract.”
Negotiations on additional contract language continue as both parties work toward an economic package covering 2026 and beyond. The next bargaining sessions are scheduled for August 6-8 in Detroit.
