After a nine-week strike, 31 members of Teamsters Local 135 at Continental Café have reached a tentative two-year contract agreement. The new contract includes higher wages, increased retirement benefits, nine additional paid days off, and continued health care protection under the Teamsters’ plan.
Dustin Roach, President of Local 135, said, “This strong agreement is a testament to the unwavering determination and resilience of our rank-and-file members who stood their ground.” He praised the members for their courage and solidarity in securing the contract.
Local 135 represents drivers, warehouse workers, and maintenance workers at Continental Café, which services vending machines. UPS is among its largest customers. The strike began in January after allegations that Continental Café refused to negotiate in good faith and engaged in unfair labor practices.
Rhonda Banks, a Local 135 shop steward and long-time driver at Continental Café, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome: “We fought like hell and won the contract we rightfully deserve.” She highlighted the support from fellow Local 135 members in Lafayette who honored extended picket lines.
Teamsters Local 135 serves over 12,000 individuals across Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and flight attendants nationwide. More details can be found on their website.
