Teamsters in Southern California have ratified a new Master Bakery Agreement, impacting over 1,000 members employed as merchandisers, route sales representatives, and transporters at Bimbo Bakeries. The five-year collective bargaining agreement includes increased wages, larger pension benefits, and reduced healthcare costs.
Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference stated: “Our committee was focused, diligent, and united throughout the entire process. This agreement raises standards for every worker in the industry. It embodies what Teamsters do best — we mobilize, we fight, and we take on employers to win the contracts we deserve.”
The negotiations nearly led to a strike before an improved offer was presented by the employer. Jaiver Franco of Teamsters Local 166 commented on the outcome: “The threat of a strike was effective, and we ended up winning an amazing contract. As Teamsters, we look out for one another and fight for the best pay and benefits.”
This marks the third major success for the Teamsters at Bimbo Bakeries following similar achievements in Washington State and Northern California last year.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has been representing workers since 1903 across various regions including the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. More information can be found at their website or social media platforms.
