Submissions for the 2025 SAG-AFTRA American Scene Awards are now open, with entries being accepted online at https://asa.sagaftra.org/home. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, July 17, at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET.
The awards recognize outstanding work in three main contract categories: Entertainment, Music & Sound Recordings, and Broadcast & News. The awards ceremony will be part of SAG-AFTRA’s virtual biennial convention scheduled for October 25-28, 2025.
Past winners include ABC/Warner Bros. TV for “Abbott Elementary,” Warner Bros. Pictures for “Judas and the Black Messiah,” Mickey Guyton & The Country Music Association for “Love My Hair” by Mickey Guyton featuring Brittney Spencer and Madeline Edwards as broadcast at the 2021 CMA Awards, Capitol Records Nashville for “Black Like Me” by Mickey Guyton, PBS SOCAL/KCET for “Lost LA: From Little Tokyo To Crenshaw,” ABC News’ “20/20,” and The Courier Journal in Louisville for “Say Her Name: Breonna Taylor.” Other notable recipients have included Hulu, Columbia/Sony Music, NPR, KPBS, and Twentieth Century Fox Television.
The Diversity Advisory and Honors and Tributes committees of SAG-AFTRA oversee the American Scene Awards. In line with the union’s “Go Green” initiatives, submissions are entirely paperless.
SAG-AFTRA’s American Scene Awards honor productions that effectively employ talents from diverse groups to realistically portray the American scene. This includes people of color, people with disabilities, women, seniors, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other under-represented groups. Recipients are producers and content creators committed to employing a diverse union membership across Entertainment, Music & Sound Recordings, and News & Broadcast categories.
SAG-AFTRA represents about 160,000 entertainment and media professionals including actors, announcers, broadcast journalists among others. As an affiliate of AFL-CIO with national offices in Los Angeles and New York as well as local offices nationwide, SAG-AFTRA works to secure strong protections for its members.
