Both are scheduled in front of a panel of judges. It will be a significant moment for the strike as approximately ten strikers, several leaders, staff, and others head to Philadelphia to witness proceedings. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is making its case for fines against management, potential incarceration for bosses, and enforcing a judgment won last September.

Labor journalist Kim Kelly recently published “Fight to Win! Heroes of American Labor,” aimed at younger readers and based on her previous work “Fight Like Hell: The Untold History of American Labor.” She spoke about her journey as a union activist and journalist. “If you can write pretty well, and you can read books, and you can talk to people, and you’re not a total total jerk, you can kind of figure it out,” she said. Kelly invited strikers to discuss their 32-month-long strike against the Post-Gazette.

The NewsGuild-CWA expressed relief after successfully opposing a Senate proposal that could have restricted U.S. states from regulating artificial intelligence (AI). In a letter to senators, the Guild emphasized that while they do not oppose AI use, they have secured agreements with employers covering AI usage in workplaces. “We’ve won protections to control the use of AI, protect jobs and establish labor/management committees to address AI-related issues in the workplace,” the letter stated.

Meanwhile, Law360’s management has mandated reporters use a bias detection tool following accusations of political bias in reporting. Reporters petitioned for this tool’s voluntary use only. A factual sentence was flagged by the tool as potentially biased due to its framing.

An amicus brief was filed by The NewsGuild-CWA in support of workers’ rights under Section 7 against Starbucks’ subpoena seeking communications between organizing baristas and journalists. “Workers have statutory protection to speak to reporters about workplace disputes and unionization efforts,” stated the brief.

Workers at the Public Library of Science reached an agreement on their first contract since unionizing last year with provisions including wage increases and layoff protections. Maddy Ghose noted that this win secures “a more secure, equitable and supportive workplace.”

Snopes fact-checkers announced their union campaign seeking voluntary recognition from management with substantial staff support. City Bureau workers also launched their union effort focusing on sustainability and ethics.

The Juntos Podemos Guild received voluntary recognition from SEIU Education and Support Fund’s Board of Directors after announcing their union drive earlier this month.
