The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) expressed its appreciation to the U.S. Senate for passing a continuing resolution (CR) that will reopen the government until January 30. The organization stated that this measure brings relief and protections to federal employees, military personnel, and federal contractors who have been without paychecks for over 40 days due to the ongoing shutdown.
NFFE is urging the House of Representatives to move quickly and pass the Senate’s CR in order to end what it described as unnecessary hardship for workers not responsible for the situation. NFFE National President Randy Erwin said, “Federal employees should never again be used as pawns in political fights that have little to do with them.”
Erwin also added, “We thank the Senate for standing up for America’s public servants and their families. For over 40 days, federal employees and contractors carried the burden of political dysfunction through no fault of their own. It’s time for the House to do the right thing: End the attacks on federal workers, pass this CR, and get our government fully back to work for the American people.”
The current government shutdown has become the longest in U.S. history.
