As the reconciliation process continues, the Senate is evaluating a proposal to increase the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) contribution rate to 15.6 percent for postal employees hired after January 1, 2026. This change would affect future postal workers despite the Postal Service operating without taxpayer funding.

NALC President Brian L. Renfroe expressed strong opposition to this proposal, stating, “This is a disgusting attack on future letter carriers. Our work is harder than it’s ever been, and this is nothing more than a significant pay cut for future letter carriers. We will not stop fighting until this ridiculous proposal is shut down.”

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) encourages action against this proposed increase in retirement contributions by contacting Congress members through their Legislative Action Center or by calling 833-545-2657.
