SAG-AFTRA has urged iHeartRadio to bring back the Rise & Grind morning show, which was recently removed from Power 99, a well-known Philadelphia radio station. The union expressed concern that replacing local programming with syndicated content from outside the area could weaken the connection between listeners and the familiar voices that have contributed to the city’s musical identity.
SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin said, “Our members at Power 99 have spent decades building relationships with their audiences. They are people you recognize and who care about their city. iHeart has an opportunity here to honor that legacy by bringing these voices back on the air and reaffirming their commitment to local storytelling. Philly deserves that respect.”
Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director, added, “Philadelphia radio is part of the city’s identity. When we lose those voices, we lose a piece of what makes this city unique. Listeners deserve programming that reflects their own communities.”
The union maintains that Philadelphia’s radio tradition is important and that local shows like Rise & Grind play a significant role in reflecting the city’s culture.
