The SAG-AFTRA National Convention began today in Los Angeles with the theme “Connect, Engage, Empower.” Delegates from across the United States participated virtually to discuss solidarity, review recent progress, and plan for the union’s future.
During the session, delegates nominated and elected eight national vice presidents. Linda Powell was re-elected as Executive Vice President for a two-year term starting immediately.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me. This is an incredible responsibility, and I’m energized by the chance to work with such talented, dedicated leaders and members. Together, we can make meaningful change in our rapidly evolving industry,” said Executive Vice President Linda Powell.
President Sean Astin commented on her re-election: “I want to congratulate Linda Powell on her re-election to the position of Executive Vice-President. Linda has a proven record of passionate and committed service. Her command of the organization’s vast array of subjects and the issues we face in the industry make her perfectly suited for her role. The members are well served by her work ethic and I couldn’t be more grateful and confident in our partnership.”
The newly elected vice presidents for two-year terms include Lisa Ann Walter (Los Angeles), Ezra Knight (New York), Nikki Izanec (Mid-Sized Locals), Suzanne Burkhead (Small Locals), Shari Belafonte (Actors/Performers), Bob Butler (Broadcasters), and Fletcher Sheridan (Recording Artists/Singers). Candidates marked with an asterisk ran unopposed.
National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland stated: “It’s an honor to work with Linda Powell and the newly elected national leadership team to advance the interests of SAG-AFTRA members. Their dedication and vision will help guide us through an exciting new chapter. Linda’s vision, passion and steady leadership make her an extraordinary partner as we continue to advance the union’s mission.”
The convention will continue through the weekend with plenary sessions, delegate discussions, special programming such as presenting awards like the George Heller Memorial Award and American Scene Awards.
