Capt. Jason Ambrosi, the leader of The Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA), congratulated Delta Air Lines’ Capt. Ron Hay for his election as president of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA). The election took place at IFALPA’s annual conference, where officials also expressed opposition to Reduced Crew Operations (RCO). They called on governments, regulators, airline management, and pilot associations to unite in maintaining high aviation safety standards.

“Capt. Hay’s leadership comes at a pivotal time as our industry is facing complex decisions about technological integration and staffing models that directly impact aviation safety, and we are grateful to have such a strong advocate in this important role. Decisions about international airline policy affect pilots first and foremost,” Ambrosi stated.

He emphasized IFALPA’s role as a global representative of airline pilots in safety and security matters, with permanent observer status at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Air Navigation Commission. Ambrosi added, “With over 35 years of experience across four airlines and a distinguished record of leadership within ALPA, we are confident that Capt. Hay will be an effective leader. His deep understanding of the challenges facing the pilot profession today, including the growing concern of reduced crew operations, will benefit pilots around the globe.”

He expressed anticipation for continued collaboration with Capt. Hay as he assumes his new responsibilities. “Together, we will work to define strategies and create solutions that serve the best interests of pilots worldwide,” he said.

The announcement detailed the slate of ALPA members holding IFALPA leadership positions, including Capt. Ron Hay as president and F/O Stacey Jackson of WestJet Airlines as Executive Vice President for Technical and Safety Standards. Other regional and standing committee leaders were also mentioned, representing airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Canadian North, and United Airlines.

Founded in 1931, ALPA claims to be the largest airline pilot union globally, representing more than 79,000 pilots across 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines.
