The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) has urged state lawmakers to resolve the ongoing budget impasse and approve a full state budget. The association emphasized that the lack of a new biennial budget, which was supposed to take effect on July 1, has left educators and other state employees without pay increases despite rising living costs and health plan premiums.

“It’s been more than two months since North Carolina should have had a new budget. That’s two months of lawmakers neglecting educators and state employees. That’s two months of neglecting our students and the public schools that serve them. We are calling on lawmakers to stop delaying, stop neglecting the people of North Carolina, and do what should have been done in July: pass the state budget,” said Tamika Walker Kelly, NCAE President.

The delay in passing the budget is due to disagreements between the Senate and House, leaving many public sector workers without expected financial adjustments.
