This week, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) is observing Public Service Recognition Week, which takes place annually during the first full week of May. The event highlights the contributions of public service workers, including federal employees and NFFE-IAM members.

“Public service workers, including federal employees and NFFE-IAM members, are critical to the success of the United States and are the backbone of communities across the country,” stated NFFE National President Randy Erwin. He emphasized that these individuals play essential roles in various sectors such as veteran care, public land stewardship, wildfire defense, military readiness maintenance, and national security safeguarding.

Erwin expressed concern over actions by the Trump Administration that he perceives as detrimental to these professionals. “Sadly, these dedicated professionals are under attack by the Trump Administration. The President has unilaterally stripped away one million civil servants’ Constitutional right to form and join a union, the largest attack on workers’ rights in the history of our country.” He further claimed that many federal employees have faced illegal termination or intimidation leading to resignation while highlighting efforts for a significant tax cut benefiting wealthy individuals.

In response to these issues, Erwin urged support for federal workers: “To support federal workers and public servants this week, I urge you to contact your representatives in Congress and demand they stand up to the Trump Administration’s shameful abuse of civil servants and gutting of critical federal agencies.” He stressed that protecting these employees and their services is crucial for preventing negative impacts on American citizens.
