Washington, D.C. – On June 19, 2025, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey released a statement recognizing Juneteenth. This day marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

McGarvey emphasized that Juneteenth serves as “a powerful reminder of Black Americans’ enduring strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions to our nation.” He highlighted the importance of reflecting on the nation’s history and called for continued efforts toward justice, equity, and inclusion.

He stated that NABTU honors Juneteenth by promoting “opportunity, dignity, and respect for all workers on every jobsite and in every community.” According to McGarvey, America’s strength lies in its ability to “open its doors wider, break down barriers, and lift up every voice.”

McGarvey concluded with a commitment to building a fairer future: “On this day and every day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a fairer, more just future for all.”
