An employee of Flying Food Group at Los Angeles International Airport has filed federal charges against the Unite Here Local 11 union. Kenia Solano, the employee, alleges that union officials have harassed and intimidated her due to her opposition to the union’s influence. The charges were filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 21, with assistance from National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation attorneys.

Solano said, “Unite Here has been a terrible presence in our workplace. Our contracts are bad and union representatives treat me and anyone who disagrees even a little bit with the union like we are evil.” She added that her rights to disagree with the union have not been respected.

The NLRB is tasked with enforcing federal labor law, including disputes involving unions and employees. Solano’s charge claims she has faced harassment and retaliation from the union since June 2024 for her critical stance. The charges describe an incident in December 2024 where a union shop steward allegedly engaged in physical confrontation with Solano.

Another employee, Esperanza Maciel, also filed charges against Local 11 in September 2024 for inciting a mob against her. These cases are part of broader efforts by Foundation attorneys to challenge what they describe as illegal tactics by Unite Here officials nationwide.

Mark Mix, President of the National Right to Work Foundation, commented on these developments: “Unite Here Local 11 officials may as well change the union’s name to ‘Unite Here or else.’” He emphasized that workers have rights to oppose union membership without fear of retaliation.

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation provides free legal aid to employees affected by compulsory unionism abuses. They handle approximately 200 cases annually across the United States.
