The Idaho Education Association (IEA) is utilizing National Teacher Appreciation Week, from May 5-9, to highlight the essential role educators play in the community through a targeted advertisement campaign titled “Because of an Educator.”
The campaign features personal stories from various community leaders about the influential educators in their lives. Among those who participated in the filmed interviews are Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anthony Doerr and Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield. Also sharing their stories are Boise Rock School co-founder Ryan Peck, record-setting Olympian and entrepreneur Kristin Armstrong, and astronaut and IEA retired member Barbara Morgan.
The “Because of an Educator” campaign has been visible through various channels such as billboards, radio, TV, and digital ads, circulating across the state since late last year. The campaign was funded through a media grant, part of IEA’s broader initiative to emphasize the importance of public education as a community asset, with educators at its core.
“Most of us have at least one teacher whose guidance and wisdom reverberates throughout our lives — the one who profoundly impacted how we see the world,” remarked Mike Journee, IEA’s communications director. “Please share your story. At a time when education and public schools are under attack in ways not seen in generations, standing up and telling the world how important our educators are is crucial.”
IEA encourages everyone to participate in the campaign by sharing personal stories about the educators who have supported and inspired them. The campaign page is open for submissions, and members are invited to share it on their social media platforms.
