Idaho Education Association announces results of recent board elections

The Idaho Education Association (IEA) recently concluded its board elections, which saw significant voter engagement. The election took place from April 23 to May 1, with all active IEA members eligible to participate online.

Lindsey Smith of Lewiston EA was elected as the National Education Association Director, receiving 52.7% of the votes. In the At-Large category, Darcie DeLeon from Twin Falls EA secured nearly unanimous support with 99.45% of the votes.

Region 7 witnessed the most competitive race, where Amber Armstrong and Cassie Horner, both from Boise EA, won two seats with 39% and 34.71% of the votes respectively. Across other regions in Idaho, many candidates ran unopposed and received between 98-100% of the votes.

Connie Wilkerson (Region 1), Stacy Wescott (Region 3), Aneatra Walker (Region 5), Melyssa Ferro (Region 8), and Carmi Scheller (Region 9) emerged victorious in their respective races. Additionally, Mary Lee Ruch will serve retired members after securing overwhelming support at a rate of 98.68%.

The newly elected board members are set to begin their terms on August 1, ahead of an upcoming board meeting scheduled for August 4-5. Meanwhile, Lindsey Smith’s term as NEA director will commence on September 1 following confirmation by NEA.
