The Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA), in collaboration with Kamehameha Schools’ Hoʻolaukoa Educational Systems and Strategies, is offering NEA Jump Start seminars to aid candidates pursuing National Board Certification. This certification is recognized as a significant professional achievement in K-12 education across the nation.

The Hawaii Revised Statutes provide a financial incentive for public school teachers who achieve National Board Certification through the teacher national board certification incentive program. This program offers a $5,000 annual bonus for maintaining certification and a $1,500 reward upon completing certification components. Additionally, teachers in certain designated schools can receive an extra $5,000 annually.

The incentive program includes mentoring from certified teachers, aiming to enhance teaching practices across Hawaii’s schools. Participation in HSTA’s NEA Jump Start seminars, priced at $150 for HSTA members and Kamehameha Schools teachers, is a suggested step for those seeking this certification.

Face-to-face seminars will be held from July 17-19, 2025, at the HSTA office on Oahu, offering free lodging and transportation for attendees from neighboring islands. Virtual sessions are scheduled from June 9-12, 2025. Registration is available online and includes a chance for a refunded registration fee for those who sign up by May 16, 2025.

Further information is available on the HSTA’s support network webpage or via email. Queries related to course registration and payment can be sent to specified email addresses.
