Workers at Genesis Logistics, tasked with delivering to 7-Eleven stores across the Mid-Atlantic, have opted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters union. The 214 drivers, represented by Local 322, will now enter negotiations for their first contract.

Dwayne Johnson, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 322, praised the group’s resolve. “I want to personally congratulate these workers and welcome them to our Teamsters family,” Johnson stated. He further recognized their determination in facing the company’s strong opposition to unionization. “Despite an aggressive campaign of illegal union busting, these workers remained determined to achieve the dignity and respect they deserved.”

The union faced significant challenges from Genesis Logistics, a subsidiary of DHL Supply Chain, which the Teamsters claim engaged in anti-union activities, such as hiring consultants, holding mandatory meetings, monitoring employees, and disciplining union supporters. The Teamsters responded by filing over a dozen unfair labor practice charges.

Genesis driver Matthew Relford expressed the reasons behind the push for unionization: “We organized with the Teamsters because we’ve had enough — enough of the low pay, the lack of respect, and poor benefits.” Relford emphasized the unity among workers despite management’s efforts to deter the union drive. “Management tried everything to stop us. But we stuck together and won. We’re proud to be Teamsters, and we’re ready to fight for what we’ve rightfully earned.”

Teamsters Local 322 currently represents over 2,000 workers in Virginia.
