On September 30, 2025, Fran Drescher, former president of SAG-AFTRA, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony took place in Hollywood and brought together friends, colleagues, and members of the acting community. Attendees included SAG-AFTRA National Board member Lisa Ann Walter, members Natasha Lyonne, Renée Taylor, Nicholle Tom, Madeline Zima, and other union leaders. SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and Chief Communications & Marketing Officer Pamela Greenwalt represented the union staff. Peter Marc Jacobson, Drescher’s longtime creative partner and former spouse, served as emcee.
The event coincided with Drescher’s birthday. She is widely recognized for her work on the television show “The Nanny,” which she starred in, co-wrote, and produced. Drescher has also authored bestselling books and is known for her advocacy in labor rights, women’s health, LGBTQ+ rights, civil rights, and environmental causes.
Drescher served as SAG-AFTRA president beginning in 2021 and was re-elected in 2023 during a period that included contract negotiations and a major strike. Her leadership during the 118-day work stoppage resulted in contract gains for union members, including protections related to artificial intelligence, which have continued in later agreements.
In her acceptance speech, Drescher said, “I wanted to be in show business. I dreamt of becoming a star, and today, this Hollywood Walk of Fame star makes it official.” She added, “Learning to love yourself is essential, regardless of rejection or praise. Rich or poor, young or old, none of that should define who you are. Not in show business or in any business.” Drescher concluded, “Everything that happens is an opportunity on your journey of self-refinement. We are very imperfect beings, learning and growing along the way through all the pitfalls and mistakes made. To do it right, we must make kindness and compassion our compass.”
After the ceremony, a private reception was held at the Hollywood Museum, which is currently displaying memorabilia from Drescher’s career and advocacy work.
Drescher’s star is the 2,822nd to be added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The stars are awarded by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which established the Walk of Fame.
