An employee of Flying Food Group at Los Angeles International Airport has filed federal charges against the Unite Here Local 11 union. Kenia Solano alleges that union officials have harassed and intimidated her due to her opposition to the union’s influence. Solano’s charges were submitted to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 21 with assistance from National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation attorneys.

“Unite Here has been a terrible presence in our workplace,” Solano said. “The law is supposed to protect my right to disagree with the union and tell my coworkers that we are better off without it, but union bosses have not respected those rights at all and just keep harassing me.”

The NLRB, responsible for enforcing federal labor laws, is currently reviewing Solano’s case. The National Labor Relations Act prohibits retaliation against employees who express their views on union control.

Solano claims she has faced harassment since June 2024 due to her criticism of the union. Her charges describe how Unite Here shop stewards allegedly isolated her and spread false information about her activities leading to potential job losses for others.

A significant incident occurred in December 2024 when a union shop steward reportedly seized a washing bin from Solano and threw it on the ground. This confrontation was witnessed by Solano’s supervisor.

In addition, another employee, Esperanza Maciel, filed charges against Local 11 in September 2024 after a mob of employees was allegedly incited by a union organizer to demand her firing.

Mark Mix, President of the National Right to Work Foundation, commented on these incidents: “While it’s bad enough that multiple employees from the same foodservice facility are reporting mob-like tactics against workers who oppose the union’s agenda, the truth is that Unite Here officials have a track record of using illegal and intimidating methods.”

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation provides free legal aid to employees affected by compulsory unionism abuses.
