An influential group of entertainment industry professionals judged the 2025 Film Challenge. This panel included Hollyshorts Film Festival Managing Director Nicole Castro, director Kat Coiro, Amazon MGM Studios & Prime Video’s Head of Inclusive Content Jerome Core, director and activist Jenni Gold, Golden Globes Executive Vice President Tim Gray, The Hollywood Reporter Contributing Editor Stacey Wilson Hunt, and disability inclusion expert AndraĆ©a LaVant, among others.
The challenge, initiated by actor, comedian, and producer Nic Novicki in 2013, addresses the under-representation of talent with disabilities in film. By partnering with Easterseals Southern California in 2017, Novicki expanded the event, which now provides a platform for filmmakers with disabilities to showcase their talent.
Easterseals Southern California contributes significantly to the community by offering critical services and support to children and adults with disabilities. The organization reaches over 25,000 people annually, supporting early childhood development, autism services, independent living, and employment. It also engages in public education, policy, and advocacy to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. More information is available on their website.
