Members of the House and Senate who voted in favor of President Trump’s budget are being criticized by Claude Cummings Jr., President of the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Cummings expressed disappointment, stating, “Members of the House and Senate who voted to pass President Trump’s budget should be ashamed of themselves. The budget is a giveaway to their billionaire backers and an insult to working people, who will not be fooled by the self-serving rhetoric of the President and Congressional Republican leadership.”

The budget is projected to result in 17 million Americans losing their healthcare coverage, with millions more facing increased costs. Cummings warned that hospitals, especially those in rural areas, may close as a result. He also highlighted that millions of workers, including thousands within the CWA, could lose jobs due to essential program cuts. According to Cummings, these measures are taken to fund actions against communities while corporations benefit from significant tax breaks.

Despite this development, Cummings emphasized that opposition efforts will continue: “This fight is not over. People from every Congressional District in our country spoke out in opposition to this terrible bill.” He called for continued dedication to American founding principles through organizing and mobilizing efforts: “We will organize, mobilize, and vote to make sure that our government works for all people, not just the very rich who are using their wealth to control our politics.”
