Las Vegas, NV – The Culinary Union is set to participate in the Stand Up and Fight Back rally today at the U.S. Courthouse in Downtown Las Vegas. The event will feature Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union, along with its members.
The rally is scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2025, at 5:30 pm at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse located at 333 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89101. It is organized in collaboration with SEIU 1107.
The motivation behind this gathering stems from recent aggressive raids by ICE agents in Los Angeles that targeted communities and resulted in the assault and detention of David Huerta. Huerta is the President of SEIU California and SEIU-United Service Workers West and was injured while peacefully advocating for immigrants’ rights. He was held in federal custody until his release today.
A spokesperson emphasized that “this incident is a clear and troubling attack on our communities, our workers, and our First Amendment rights,” affirming that they “will not remain silent.”
The Culinary Union represents a significant workforce segment within Nevada’s hospitality industry through its affiliates UNITE HERE Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165. The union has played an active role in providing healthcare coverage via the Culinary Health Fund to over 145,000 Nevadans.
Moreover, it stands as Nevada’s largest organization representing Latino/a, Black, AAPI immigrants with a diverse membership comprising various demographics including women and immigrants from numerous countries.
