AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler has responded to a recent ruling in the case of American Federation of Government Employees v. Donald Trump. The case challenged an executive order from March 27 that affected nearly one million federal workers by removing their collective bargaining rights under claims of “national security.”
Shuler stated, “In March, President Trump committed the single biggest act of union-busting in history, stripping nearly 1 million federal workers of their right to collectively bargain and have a voice on the job.” She noted that on Tuesday, a U.S. District Court had restored these workers’ rights while the litigation is ongoing.
The AFL-CIO president expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision to block Trump’s executive order, describing it as “an action that was in explicit retaliation against federal workers’ unions exercising their First Amendment rights to challenge the administration’s attacks on their members.” She acknowledged that while this is a significant win for federal workers and their allies, “this fight is far from over.”
Shuler emphasized the importance of this victory for the labor movement and its supporters.
