Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House, has received recognition from the Communications Workers of America (CWA) for her long-standing support of union members and working people. The CWA highlighted Pelosi’s contributions during her career in public service, emphasizing her effectiveness as Speaker and her role in key legislative achievements.
According to the statement, Pelosi played a central part in expanding healthcare coverage through the Affordable Care Act. She also worked to protect essential workers’ health, safety, and jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Pelosi was credited with helping ensure that thousands of CWA-represented workers and retirees who participate in multiemployer pension plans will receive full pension benefits earned over their careers.
The CWA noted that “Speaker Emerita Pelosi never backed down from a fight. She stood with us when it counted—on the floor of the House of Representatives and on the picket line. We are grateful for her efforts and for her friendship, and we wish her the best in her retirement.”
The Communications Workers of America represents employees across various sectors including telecommunications, customer service, media, airlines, health care, public service and education, manufacturing, tech, and other industries.
