CFT President Jeff Freitas has issued a statement criticizing the treatment of Senator Alex Padilla by the Trump administration. The incident occurred during a press conference held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles, where Senator Padilla was reportedly detained and forcibly removed.

Freitas stated, “We condemn the detention and forcible removal of California Senator Alex Padilla earlier today from a press conference by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles.” He emphasized that such actions against a sitting US Senator are unacceptable and indicative of what he describes as the Trump Administration’s move towards authoritarianism.

Freitas expressed solidarity with Senator Padilla and communities nationwide, calling for an end to what he termed as terrorizing immigrant communities. “We stand united with Senator Padilla and the communities in Los Angeles and across the nation in demanding the Trump Administration immediately stop terrorizing our immigrant communities,” Freitas said.

The CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals represents 120,000 teachers, faculty, and school employees across various educational institutions in California. It is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
