Colorado’s Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) is an essential institution for providing retirement benefits to educators and other public employees in the state. The Colorado Education Association (CEA) has recently endorsed candidates for the 2025 PERA Board elections, highlighting the importance of educator involvement in these decisions.

The PERA Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing all benefits and programs at PERA. It consists of 16 trustees, with 12 elected directly by members and retirees. Three are appointed by the governor with Senate approval, while the State Treasurer serves as an ex officio member. CEA members contribute significantly to this system through the School Division, which represents its largest group of contributors.

In preparation for these elections, CEA conducted a thorough process involving questionnaires and interviews with candidates vying for three School Division seats and one Retiree Division seat. Following this evaluation, CEA announced its endorsements: Eunice Botchway, Drew Adams, and Marcus Pennell for the School Division; Tina Mueh was endorsed for the Retiree Division.

“We trust that these candidates will bring an educator’s perspective to the board,” stated a CEA representative. They emphasized that these individuals would advocate for solvency and transparency within PERA’s decision-making processes.

This endorsement reflects CEA’s commitment to ensuring that educators have a voice in shaping their retirement futures through active participation in PERA elections.
