Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) members at CBS News have commenced negotiations with management for a new collective bargaining agreement. The bargaining unit, consisting of over 270 members, includes newswriters, producers, promotions writer-producers, editors, graphic artists, and news desk associates from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.
The WGA members are advocating for significant wage increases, enhanced health care contributions, AI protections, improved severance terms, and other workplace protections. The CBS News negotiations committee said: “As we begin negotiations with CBS News, we are committed to securing a strong deal that ensures competitive compensation and job security for all our members. We recognize the evolving nature of the broadcast industry and aim to protect both the quality of our work and the well-being of our union. This contract is an opportunity to expand our strong foundation for the future of journalism, setting a positive example for the industry.”
Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, President of WGAE, emphasized the importance of addressing workforce needs: “It has never been more critical that management at CBS News address the needs of their dedicated and dependable workforce. We expect management to come to the table ready to negotiate on all issues in good faith. Guild members at CBS News are mobilized and ready to win a fair new contract.”
