Boilermakers mourn death of member Steve Chambers; emphasize jobsite safety

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers has announced the death of Brother Steve E. Chambers, a member of Local 667 from Cameron, West Virginia. Chambers was killed while working on a Simakas project at the Westlake Chemical Plant in Proctor, West Virginia, on May 11. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation, and no further details have been released.

International President Timothy Simmons expressed condolences to Chambers’ family and colleagues, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety. “We offer our deepest sympathy and support to Brother Chambers’ family and our Local 667 brothers and sisters. We are thinking especially of his father, who is also a L-667 Boilermaker,” said Simmons. He added that safety protocols must always be followed to prevent such tragedies.

Bruce Forshee, L-667 Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer, noted that memorial arrangements for Chambers have not yet been made. The local union plans to honor him with a customized Boilermaker Bible for his family. Forshee stated, “Brother Chambers’ death is such a tragic, senseless and tremendous loss.” He reiterated the necessity of prioritizing safety on all jobsites.

Forshee extended sympathies specifically to Chambers’ father, son, and girlfriend during this difficult time.
