Today in New York City, International President John Costa of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) announced the union’s endorsement of Governor Andrew Cuomo for Mayor of New York City. The announcement took place in a room filled with members from various ATU Locals, including 726-Staten Island, 1056-Flushing, 1179-Queens, 1181-New York, and others from across New Jersey.

Costa addressed the gathering with enthusiasm: “Now this is a movement. We got a movement in the house today. I’m a Jersey boy, but I love New York. It’s the greatest city in the world. But coming here from across the Hudson, I’ve noticed changes in recent years,” he stated.

He highlighted concerns regarding safety for both members and riders as ongoing issues that need attention. Costa expressed confidence in Cuomo’s ability to tackle these challenges: “At the ATU, we know who the right person is to address these challenges and lead this great city. That person is Governor Andrew Cuomo. We are proud to endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor!”

The union has committed to mobilizing its members throughout the five boroughs to support Cuomo’s mayoral campaign under the slogan “ATU is Ridin’ with Cuomo.”
