Captain Tim Perry, President of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) Canada, has released a statement congratulating Mark Carney on his election as Canada’s prime minister. He emphasized ALPA Canada’s dedication to working alongside Carney’s upcoming Cabinet and advancing a pro-pilot agenda.

ALPA Canada, part of “the world’s largest nongovernmental aviation safety organization,” aims to promote aviation safety and advance the rights of its members as well as employees across Canada. Perry stated, “ALPA Canada continues to establish solid working relationships with all parliamentarians to promote a pilot-partisan agenda. That work will continue with this newly elected government.” He also reiterated their stance against any weakening of pilot fatigue regulations by commercial operators, insisting that ALPA Canada should be involved in discussions regarding Canada’s aviation regulatory framework.

Furthermore, ALPA Canada is advocating for reforms to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, particularly to involve consultation with unions representing affected employees. Perry also highlighted the association’s commitment to preserving the collective bargaining process and preventing government interventions, stating, “We believe it is in the best interest of all parties to reach collective agreements at the bargaining table without government interference.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest airline pilot union, representing over 79,000 pilots across 42 airlines in the U.S. and Canada.
