AGMA Artists from the Metropolitan Opera conducted a demonstration on May 23 at Lincoln Center. The event featured singers performing “Solidarity Forever” and dancers interpreting the song through movement. Stage Manager Connie Grubbs addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of valuing all contributors to opera.

“If opera wants a future, it has to value the people who make it happen. That means every artist, every voice, everybody on that stage and behind it… We’re not going to settle for less than dignity, respect, and fair contracts. The fate of our members is inextricably linked to that of the Metropolitan Opera and we are committed to strengthening our partnership,” Grubbs stated.

Negotiations with the Metropolitan Opera are set to resume today. The artists remain united in their efforts. A video documenting the event was created by Met Stage Director Marcus Shields.
