The president of the AFL-CIO, Liz Shuler, has expressed approval for a new bipartisan initiative in the U.S. House of Representatives aimed at reversing a previous executive order introduced during the Trump administration. This order sought to eliminate collective bargaining rights for a significant number of federal workers.

Liz Shuler released a statement criticizing the former president’s executive order: “Donald Trump’s executive order would end collective bargaining for hundreds of thousands of federal workers, silencing their voices and ripping up their contracts. This is blatant retaliation for unions challenging the administration’s illegal attacks on working people and strikes a blow to every American’s fundamental right to freedom of speech and association.”

Shuler highlighted the widespread support for unions, saying, “There are 70% of Americans and nearly 9 in 10 young people who support unions—no one voted to attack the freedom to organize with our co-workers for a better life.”

The legislation is spearheaded by Representatives Jared Golden and Brian Fitzpatrick. Shuler praised their actions: “We commend the leadership of Reps. Jared Golden and Brian Fitzpatrick for using Congress’ power to reverse this blatantly illegal, anti-worker power grab.”

Shuler emphasized the labor movement’s support for the bill and urged all members of Congress to support this legislation. “The labor movement is 100% behind this bill, and we call on every member of Congress—Democrat and Republican—to take a stand in support of our fundamental rights by backing this critical legislation.”
