AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler has addressed the outcome of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election with a statement applauding Judge Susan Crawford’s triumph. Shuler emphasized the election’s significance, attributing the decision to Wisconsin’s working-class voters who opposed external financial influences during the election process.
“The AFL-CIO congratulates Judge Susan Crawford on her well-deserved victory in this hugely consequential election. Tonight, the working people of Wisconsin rejected the attempts of the richest man in the world to literally buy this election, choosing instead to embrace a Circuit Court judge who puts workers over corporate CEOs and billionaires,” said Shuler in her statement. She expressed her belief that this election’s impact will extend beyond Wisconsin, highlighting the dissatisfaction of voters with the influence of wealthy elites.
Praising the efforts of the Wisconsin labor force, Shuler noted, “I am immensely proud of the Wisconsin labor movement for coming together to make this victory for working people possible.” She pointed out the leadership role of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO in advancing workers’ rights and underscored the importance of unity among union members.
In her remarks, Shuler addressed various issues that the Wisconsin Supreme Court will face, including workers’, women’s, and voting rights. She stated, “Wisconsin has seen its fair share of attacks on so many of our rights over the past 15 years. Many of those issues will come under direct review of this court.” Shuler concluded by highlighting the resolve of the working people in electing a candidate who will uphold fairness and legal integrity.
