AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler has voiced strong criticism against a new executive order from the Trump administration. According to Shuler, the executive decree eliminates collective bargaining and union rights for federal workers at over 30 agencies.
Shuler stated, “Straight out of Project 2025, this executive order is the very definition of union-busting.” She emphasized that essential workers, including those ensuring food safety, caring for veterans, and protecting against public health emergencies, will be stripped of their ability to unionize and advocate for improved working conditions.
Furthermore, Shuler attributes the executive order to retaliation against unions that have opposed the administration’s legal actions in court. “It’s clear that this order is punishment for unions who are leading the fight against the administration’s illegal actions in court—and a blatant attempt to silence us.”
In her remarks, Shuler called upon all Americans to defend workers’ rights, underscoring the importance of unity in the face of governmental challenges. “To every single American who cares about the fundamental freedom of all workers, now is the time to be even louder.”
Expressing her strong opposition, Shuler affirmed, “We will fight this outrageous attack on our members with every fiber of our collective being.”
