Actors’ Equity Association’s Advisory Committee on Chorus Affairs (ACCA) has announced the nominees for the 2025 ACCA Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus. The productions nominated this season are “Boop! The Musical,” “Buena Vista Social Club,” “Pirates! The Penzance Musical,” and “Smash.”

Al Bundonis, 2nd vice president of Actors’ Equity Association and chair of the ACCA, remarked, “Equity has designated 2025 as ‘A Chorus Year,’ and the ACCA Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus is just one milestone event in our yearlong celebration.” He added that the eligible productions highlight the exceptional work of Equity members on chorus contracts across the country. Bundonis emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of chorus performers to both individual productions and the industry as a whole.

The ACCA Award is unique in honoring original chorus members of Broadway musicals. In evaluating each production from the 2024-2025 theatrical season, ACCA considered various factors including director, choreographer, and musical director requirements; technical skill; and overall contributions by the chorus. Members of Equity’s national council who serve on ACCA will nominate award recipients, with voting open to all ACCA members, Equity Chorus Councilors, and past Legacy Robe recipients. Voters must attend all four nominated musicals this season.

The award ceremony will be held alongside this year’s Actors’ Equity Foundation Awards on June 23 in New York City.

Previous winners include choruses from shows such as “Legally Blonde” (2007), “In the Heights” (2008), and more recently “New York, New York” (2023) and “The Heart of Rock and Roll” (2024). Special awards were given in 2022 to recognize Broadway choruses affected by pandemic disruptions.

Actors’ Equity Association represents over 51,000 professional actors and stage managers in the U.S., focusing on career advancement through wage negotiation, improved working conditions, and benefits provision.
